Attack in Liloan kills 1, injures 2

A 34-YEAR-OLD member of Alpha Kappa Rho (Akrho) fraternity died, while two of his fraternity brothers were wounded in a shooting in Sitio Bajac, Barangay Poblacion, Liloan, Cebu last Monday night.

Police said Jay Misa died from gunshot wounds in the chest and other parts of his body.

Misa’s cousins Clyde Malagar, 30, and Jonathan Bolambao, 19, suffered minor injuries.

They were reportedly attacked by two men riding a motorcycle, said investigator SPO3 Marcelino Servilla.

The three men were walking home at 9:30 p.m. when the culprits arrived and shot them. Six empty shells from a 9mm pistol and two slugs were recovered at the crime scene.

Servilla said that the attack is not fraternity-related.

He said that Malagar and Bolambao reportedly witnessed a shooting incident in Bajac last week, where their neighbor Ronnie Mariquit was killed.

Servilla believes that the shooting was meant to prevent the victims from testifying on the earlier incident.

For their safety, Malagar and Bolambao went to Tuburan after Mariquit was killed. They came back to Bajac after staying in Tuburan for a few days.

“This has nothing to do with a frat war. The culprits are possibly mad at them because they saw what happened,” Servilla said in Cebuano in a phone interview.
