CITY OF BALANGA, Bataan -– All motorcycle riders in the province are urged to visit the office of Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Bataan to have their helmets affixed with a clearance sticker.
DTI-Bataan Director Yay Lasam said in a press meeting that they will check the motorcycle riders’ helmets and, if found “protective,” will be affixed with an Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) sticker for free.
This is in compliance to Republic Act 10054 or the Motorcycle Helmet Law, which mandates all motorcycle riders to wear standard protective helmets with ICC sticker that means the product has passed quality standards.
“The application for ICC sticker is very easy. They should just go to DTI with their helmet and one official ID and accomplish the application form,” said Lasam.
She said DTI is the only authorized government agency to provide the sticker and reminded that they will accept motorists until December 31.
Starting January 1 next year, riders whose helmets do not have the ICC sticker will be apprehended by authorities of the Land Transportation Office and will be fined P1,500 for the first offense; P3,000 for the second; P5,000 for the third; and P10,000 for the next offense plus confiscation of license.
“Even backriders should wear a protective helmet or else they will be penalized,” said Lasam.
The motorcycle riders were also advised to follow the schedule of sticker marking. Those with surnames starting with letters A to F should visit DTI-Bataan this September, letters G to O in October, and those starting with P to Z are scheduled in November.
Municipalities and private companies may request DTI-Bataan to conduct sticker marking in their areas.
