Less fireworks incidents in NegOcc

THE New Year's celebration in Western Visayas was peaceful and orderly, with only a handful of firecracker-related injuries, particularly in Negros Occidental.

According to Police regional Director Agrimero Cruz Jr., there were only 54 injuries due to firecrackers and 10 incidents of stray bullets, with Negros Occidental topping the firecracker incidents, as per report of the PRO-Western Visayas (PRO6) Tactical Operations Center.

Cruz said that they are happy of the low incidents of firecracker related incidents this year compared to the last two years.

Of the 10 incidents of stray bullets, three persons were reported wounded namely: Teresita Cansancio, 62, of Talacuan, Leon, Iloilo; Eduardo Tavarra, 74, of Tigbauan, Iloilo; and Mayette Miranda, 28, of Tapo-tapo Avenue, New Buswang, Kalibo, Aklan. They are now declared out of danger.

Negros Occidental posted the highest firecrackers-related incidents with 27: six each in Guimaras, Iloilo City, and Bacolod City; five in Iloilo province; three in Antique; and one in Aklan.

Compared to last year, there were 83 firecrackers-related incidents, and 15 stray bullets, one died due to stray bullets.

To recall, PRO6 launched an aggressive information drive and police operations relative to government's "Iwas Paputok/Iwas Disgrasya" campaign.

The Firearms and Explosives Units of PRO6 has reported the confiscation of illegal firecrakers and pyrotechnic devices with an estimated cost of P179,850.00.

Iloilo City Police Office (Icpo) posted the highest confiscation of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices amounting to P117,000.00.

The confiscation of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices in Negros Occidental was pegged at P15,000.00; P15,500.00 in Iloilo PPO; P15,000.00 in Bacolod City; P11,060.00 in Aklan PPO; P4,290.00 in Capiz PPO; and P500.00 in Antique PPO.
