Training program to equip locals on engine repair, maintenance

GUAGUA, Pampanga — Guagua Councilor Ton Torres and Governor Lilia Pineda have sponsored a district-wide skills training to equip locals on how to repair and maintain small engine parts and machinery.

Torres told Sun.Star Pampanga that the program dubbed “Small Engine Mechanic Training” was recently implemented in Guagua, Lubao and Floridablanca with an average of 50 to 70 participants.

The program is currently being implemented in Sta. Rita town and will also be held in Porac and Sasmuan towns.

“We are looking at equipping these people with the needed skills so that they can easily find jobs. The skills training on engine repair and maintenance is something that is in demand for both local and international employment,” Torres said.

Torres urged the graduates of the program to use their skills to earn a living for themselves and their families. The longtime town councilor has been reported to seek a board member seat in the coming 2013 elections.

Torres said if given a chance to serve the people of the second district, he would be very willing to contribute his knowledge in business by seeking the chairmanship of the SP Committees on Cooperative and Trade and Industry.

In his two terms as councilor in Guagua town, he was in charge of the Municipal Cooperative Development Council, which has been adjudged as the Best MCDC of Pampanga for two years, with the awards done every three years.

Torres, whose family business is furniture manufacturing, said he is also promoting the One Town One Product program of the Department of Trade and Industry and Provincial Government by encouraging small and medium enterprises in Pampanga towns to promote their respective products.
