Serna: ‘Thy Womb’ to be reshown

IT’S Pista Senyor once again! Today, the Cebu Provincial Government plays the role of one of the pilgrim sponsors in the 1 p.m. Holy Mass.

Sto. Niño devotees among Capitol employees will flock to the Basilica del Sto. Niño to take part in the celebration of the Holy Mass, which has become a tradition for the province at this time of the year. Pit Senyor!

For out-of-towners as well as those from the city of Cebu itself, the Sinulog street fair along Osmeña Blvd. (in front of the Abellana National School) is now going on and will end at the end of the month.

Today at 3 p.m., the Sinulog launching parade will be held from the Basilica to the Cebu City Sports Center. Then at 6:30 p.m., the Sinulog launching program will be held at the Fuente Osmeña circle. Nightly cultural shows will also start tonight at the Fuente circle.

The Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Dakbayan parade will be held tomorrow from the Capitol area up to the Cebu City Sports Center. Then on Sunday, the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan parade will be held from the Plaza Independencia area up to the Cebu City Sport Center.

The selection and coronation of the Miss Cebu 2013 will be held on Jan. 16 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino while the Cebu Popular Music Festival, which is now on its 33rd edition, will be held on Jan. 18 at the Cebu Coliseum.

The foot procession and the fluvial parade of the Holy Child’s image will be on Jan. 19 while the Sinulog grand parade will be on the 20th. That’s quite a handful of major activities for you to look forward to.

It looks like the more GMA-7 artist and Starstruck 5 Ultimate Survivor Sarah Lahbati avails herself of the convenience of social networks, the more she gets embroiled in the mess she has gotten herself into with her home studio.

While it looked like her explanation over the so-called “walkout” issue has somehow helped her a bit, her latest tweets in which she mentioned the names of two of the network’s executives and a management firm had further sunk her into the quicksand of controversies.

Perhaps it would be better for Sarah to keep her cool and steer away from the issue while using the social networks in the meantime. It’s sad to note that a priority star such as her—whom the network had “invested heavily on” and who has already received so much blessings since she won the network’s reality star search—would put all these beautiful things to waste at this time when her star has started to rise and show brilliance.

Meanwhile, GMA-7 is steadfast in its stand not to let Sarah “cancel her contract unilaterally” and “walk away from her contract” that easily. Let’s wait where all these things would lead to in the coming days.

The awards that the movie Thy Womb had received in the 38th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF)—including best actress for superstar Nora Aunor, best director for Brilliante Mendoza and the Gatpuno Villegas Cultural Award—and the unscheduled “pullout” due to what observers say as low box-office turnout had somehow aroused the curiosity of the movie-going public. At first, people chose to ignore the masterpiece in favor of what some sectors refer to as “escapist entertainment.”

These factors had turned the tide in favor of the award-winning movie such that movie house operators and owners have resumed showing the movie.

It is also quite unfair for the movie, which had received awards and accolades abroad before it was shown at the MMFF to be snubbed right in its own territory. And it would be such a loss for moviegoers to miss such a jewel of a craft.

Finally, let me thank those who remembered me during the season of giving that has just winded up. Let me thank also my relatives (uncle Ernesto Doños Sr. and wife Flaviana and cousins Eric, Ernesto Jr. and Helene) for the enjoyable and memorable days I spent with the family in Quezon City during the holidays. May the Almighty bless you even more for your thoughtfulness and generosity. Pit Senyor!
