All set for Esplanade II project

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is starting the construction of the P60-million Esplanade II, said Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.

Mabilog, who got the advance information from DPWH Regional Director Edilberto Tayao, said the esplanade project is a one-kilometer Iloilo River stretch from the Medical City Hospital to Barangay San Pedro vehicle terminal in Molo District.

The DPWH completed last year the P70-million Esplanade I project along the Ephraim Treñas Boulevard, also at the Iloilo River from the diversion road up to the Carpenter’s Bridge in Mandurriao District.

Mabilog said the Esplanade II will pass through the Iloilo River up to the Barangay San Pedro Ecopark, which will be developed for people to enjoy like in Esplanade I.

Mabilog said that aside from the Ecopark at Barangay San Pedro, Molo District will also be developed and constructed with the Iloilo City sports complex and buildings to accommodate the informal settlers who will be displaced by the Esplanade II project.

Roprim Construction, which constructed the Esplanade I last year, will also be the contractor of Esplanade III with an amount of P39.6 million.

Meanwhile, after the completion of Esplanade II, the DPWH said Esplanade III project will be underway from the Quirino Lopez Bridge up to the Parola ferry terminal area in Fort San Pedro.
