Batang Rizal goes to Leyte, Samar

A RARE musical road show dubbed as “Batang Rizal, The Musicale” will be staged in four places in Eastern Visayas, said event organizer Serge Noda Gonzales.

Gonzales said the show, which was produced by Meta-Asian Educational Concept and Events Company in Manila in cooperation with Philippine Educational Theater Association (Peta), will introduce an educational, interactive comedy-musicale theater play that explores the childhood of the country’s national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.

Gonzales said the show will help the audience see and understand more on the life and works of Rizal in an interactive way.

Gonzales said that as they toured around the country for their production, he also took notice that some places were not open to the idea of bringing back the tradition of theater arts to the cultural psyche of Filipino families and children.

“It’s a bittersweet experience to us, however, we are grateful to those who open their arms for us to introduce our production, particularly to the school officials since this will eventually help in nurturing the knowledge and personality of their school children,” he said.

The production will have all original music composed and arranged by Maestro Vincent de Jesus, with the direction of Dudz Terana, and written by Christine Bellens, he added.

The production group is also credited for being the maker of Eugene Domingo’s theater play “Bona,” he said.

Gonzales said “Batang Rizal, The Musical” will be in Leyte National High School Gym-Tacloban City in February 2; Catbalogan City Provincial Gym, Samar in February 3; Calbayog City Sports Center, Samar in February 9; and University of Eastern Philippines Gym in Catarman, Northern Samar in February 10.
