Rivermaya launches new single

THE long wait is finally over for Rivermaya fans as the iconic band releases new single "Pilipinas, Kailangan Ka Magigising" after four years.

Penned by the band's founding member Mark Escueta, the song is a reminder to everyone to go against crab mentality and selfishness. Its theme is very apt for the upcoming May 2013 elections.

According to Escueta they picked "Pilipinas, Kailangan Ka Magigising" as the carrier single of the "Panatang Makabanda" album because it is the favorite of the band.

"This song became the initial favorite of the group. It's also a fun song to play live. Maganda yung message ng kanta and very timely rin since election time nanaman tayo," the drummer-turned guitarist said.

The "Pilipinas, Kailangan Ka Magigising" music video is also set to be released soon and will highlight messages that only a nation that is united can effectively employ change.

The album is also Rivermaya's first project under its new record label, Universal Records. They join elite roster of bands Parokya Ni Edgar, Kamikazee, Sponge Cola, Calla Lily and many others.

"It's really a great honor for us, not only to become part of such a high-caliber roster, but to be given the chance to work with a company that has always championed the Filipino artist," Escueta said.

"It took a few weeks for it to really sink in. Di kami makapaniwala. Finally, we're home," he said.

Rivermaya is behind hit songs "Awit ng Kabataan," "Elesi," "Umaaraw, Umuulan," "Hinahanap-hanap Kita," "Himala," "Kisapmata" among others. (Sunnex)
