Zambo fire bureau gears for fire prevention month

THE Bureau of Fire Protection’s (BFP) Zamboanga City Fire District (ZCFD) is gearing up for the observance of the 46th Fire Prevention Month in the city.

The BFP observes every March as fire prevention month pursuant Presidential Proclamation 115.

ZCFD marshall Superintendent Dominador Zabala Jr. said they have lined up several activities that include: walk for a fire free and fire safe nation, blowing of horns of all firefighting apparatus, fire safety awareness campaign in schools by Berong Bombero (March 1); fire safety Olympics (March 6); house to house inspection (March 7); open house for all fire station for school children, fire prevention games, BFP fire Olympics and culminating ceremony (March 8-10).

Zabala said the observance aimed to instill in the minds of the people the importance of fire prevention and help the people to be fire conscious.

This year’s observance of the fire prevention month is dubbed “Sunog at Sakuna ay Paghandaan, Kalikasan ay Pangalagaan nang Matamasa ang Pag-unland ng Bayan.”

Mayor Celso Lobregat has called upon all people in the city to join and support the unity walk to kick off the observance of the 46th National Fire Prevention Month in March 1.

Lobregat issued the call through an executive order he issued dated February 11.

Lobregat’s order enjoins all schools, government entities, private institutions, non-government organizations (NGO’s), church-based organizations, civil society groups, urban poor communities and all constituents to participate.

Assembly is set in front of the ZCFD headquarters, along Mayor Climaco Avenue at 5 a.m. The unity walk will start at 5:30 a.m. and will end at the Paseo del Mar grounds. (Bong Garcia)
