FCA cagefest to open April 13

ALL systems go for the Davao leg of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Basketball League that will open on April 13 at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center (DCRC).

FCA Philippines national director Gary Visitacion, in an e-mailed statement furnished to Sun.Star Davao, said basketball is one of the sports that FCA uses to reach out to coaches and athletes over the country. Similar FACBL already kicked off in Cebu City, Manila and Bacolod City.

"At the heart of FCA are coaches. Our role is to minister to them by encouraging and equipping them to know and serve Christ. FCA ministers to coaches through Bible studies, prayer support, discipleship and mentoring," Visitacion added.

The FCA is a Christian fellowship based in the US and with chapters across the world including in the Philippines.

The organizers urged evangelical churches, ball clubs, and other groups to join the league. Interested teams may send their coaching staff to the FCA Davao Coaches conference slated March 23.

FCA Davao head coach Rael Diaz, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao, said the league will be played in eight Saturday.

Diaz added, "Community-based teams are also welcome to join."

The cagefest is part of FCA's ministry through sports that encourages professional, college, high school, and elementary athletes to share Jesus Christ to the whole world through basketball.

Interested squads may contact Diaz through his mobile number at (0921) 390-3659.
