Watch out for Markki Stroem

THE name Markki Stroem may not sound familiar but what if I tell you that he was the guy whom Aiai delas Alas blurted out: "Binuhay mo ang katawang lupa ko!" during the first season of Pilipinas Got Talent in 2010?

Yes, he was that tall, mestizo guy who sang well and one of those who received the loudest cheers from the crowd.

As expected, those loud chants were heard once more when the singer/indie actor had a show at the fountain area of SM Lanang Premier last February 16. In fact, some fans even waited for his arrival at the Davao International Airport. That was how excited they were to see him!

In an hour of fun-filled show, he performed some covers of popular songs like What a Wonderful World by Louie Armstrong, Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen, Toxic by Britney Spears, and Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5 and Cristina Aguilera. The last song was my personal favourite. The hunk singer was really successful in putting a twist into this pop song by singing it his own style which is standard.

In a short press conference with the Davao media and bloggers at Hog's Breath Restaurant prior to his show, he shared with us a number of things that his fans must watch out for this year.

New music video

By March this year, Markki is set to release a new music video via the Philippines’ music channel, Myx.

New album

Apart from the new music video, Markki is set to release his second album towards the end of this year.

"My next album will be a cover of different songs but still in my genre," he said.

In the meantime, Markki said, his fans can still buy a copy of his album called "Thousands of Pieces" which includes eight original compositions and two covers (Call Me Maybe and Toxic).

"Most of them describe my style," he said adding that his first album is set to hit gold record soon.

New indie movie

After doing Slumber Party, an entry in the Cinema One Originals Digital Film Festival 2012, Markki will once again impress the audience as he embarks on doing another independent movie.

"We'll start shooting soon," he said.

The movie will be released with the title Kiss the Door with a plot that happened in the 16th century.

Markki said he's enthusiastic about taking into the role as this would mean a challenge to him.

"I get to play flawed characters and that’s what I love about indie movies," he said.

In Slumber Party, Markki played a gay while in Kiss the Door, his acting prowess will be put to test as he gives life to a 16th century man who "kiss the door" and married a Tagala, an indio.

PGT 4 hosting

Markki is also excited on hosting the PGT 4 audition to be aired over TFC or The Filipino Channel, ABS-CBN's international network.

"I'll be hosting the TFC cut and I feel glad that through it, I become part of PGT again," he said.

The said TFC cut features nine winners from nine different countries which include Spain, Canada, United States, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, and Australia.
