Comelec urged to hold Pagla-um plebiscite on July 26

BACOLOD City Councilor Jose Carlos Lopez went to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Manila to ask for the definite date on the conduct of a plebiscite for Pagla-um village, which will hopefully be the 62nd barangay of the city.

Lopez once discussed the matter with former Comelec commissioner Rene Sarmiento, who just retired on February this year, relative to the plebiscite of the Pagla-um Village, Barangay Mansilingan, which is being positioned to be converted as the next barangay of the city.

"We wrote the commission en banc in relation to the setting of a definite date for the plebiscite to comply with Bacolod City Ordinance 606, series of 2012, which seeks to create Barangay Paglaum. We suggested to the Comelec that the plebiscite be held on July 26, 2013," Lopez said.

The en banc has noted his request and assured him that the Comelec will attend to this after the conduct of the May 13, 2013 elections.
