Church brings RH issue to pulpit; Legarda, Hontiveros singled out

THE Catholic Church has brought to the pulpit the issue of the controversial Reproductive Health (RH) law that formed part of the Sunday homily aired over ABS-CBN.

A priest officiating the mass read the pastoral letter of Bishop Vicente Navarra that apparently singled out reelectionist Senator Loren Legarda and Team PNoy senatorial candidate and Akbayan Partylist Representative Hontiveros as pro RH candidates.

The Church has reiterated its position that it is morally obliged to guide the Catholic faithful in choosing candidates in the May 13, 2013 election.

The camp of Legarda appealed to the Church to exercise fairness. Her camp questioned why the Church would single out the two women candidates who are mothers, too.

There are seven senatorial candidates on the list who voted in favor of the RH law, including Francis Escudero, Sonny Angara, Teddy Casiño, Alan Peter Cayetano and Jack Enrile.

They hope that the bishop and the priests will teach the faithful about values than campaign against those who voted in favor of the RH law.
