Kadayawan’s Boodle Fight by Park Inn

ORIGINALLY practiced by the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) cadets, “boodle fight” is a tradition where members of the military, regardless of rank, gather around a long table to partake of an abundant assortment of rice and viand spread on top of banana leaves.

A terminology for “attacking the food,” the boodle fight fosters fraternity and equality among comrades who eat with bare hands, and is usually prepared after a celebration or special event.

A decade ago, I have first encountered this boodle fight during lunch with military soldiers after a habitat building for flood victims. What struck me during the meal sharing was the bonding that brought us all together as we “attacked” the food with relish over stories and laughter. So any dining invitation that includes “boodle fight” is magic word for me.

Here comes Park Inn by Radisson Davao joining the Kadayawan festivities by upgrading its best seller Supersize meals with a delectable twist called Supersize Boodle Fight, which starts on August 15 until August 31. This will be served daily for lunch and dinner at RBG’s all day dining restaurant.

For two weeks as the highlight of Kadayawan celebration, Park Inn’s team of chefs is concocting a delicious array for Dabawenyos and tourists with a lineup of Grilled Vegetable Salad with Chevre Cheese, Tinolang Manok Soup, Grilled Squid, Fried Crablets, Grilled Tuna Belly, Chicken Inasal, Grilled Shrimp, Grilled Tilapia, Crispy Pork Belly, Lumpia Shanghai, Pancit, Special Davao Cake and Fresh Fruits on the menu.

Priced at P1,999 net good for 6 to 7 persons, the special meal is served with plain and garlic rice, plus a pitcher of drink.

An added fun activity in partnership with Fujifilm Instax Philippines boost the barehanded chaos among us fellow members of the press who were gathered for the launch.

For the duration of the promo, every group who avails of the Boodle Fight will get one complimentary Instax photo printout as a souvenir. Another picture will be posted on RBG’s “Wall of Memories” as an entry to a grand raffle draw to be announced on September 3.

Davao’s colorful Kadayawan Festival draws thousands of people from all over, to witness how we celebrate our thanksgiving of good harvest and gifts of nature, cultural wealth and serenity of living.

Included is the Quickfire lunch (4-course set meal) for a family (2 adults and 2 children) at RBG. For an extra adult, a supplement rate of P1,800 nett per person per night will be charged.

Kadayawan’s Supersize Boodle Fight launch was filled with merriment as we fed on the array of Filipino dishes with our hands covered in plastic gloves, ignoring the mess that ensued on the table. After the meal came poses for the Fuji Instax prints as we tried to outdo one another with the most dramatic flair for selfies. The next day, I came back to join another round of invitation for the bloggers, and I attacked the food with the same ferocity. Now that is what I call my boodle fighting spirit.
