Marcha de las Mujeres set

MULTI-SECTORAL groups will converge Friday at the City Hall grounds for the Marcha de las Mujerez, a fund-raising activity intended to help support the needs of marginalized women in Zamboanga City.

The participants, from the City Hall grounds, will march the streets to the Joaquin F. Enriquez Jr. Memorial Sports Complex, where a program will be held.

Mayor Celso Lobregat along with House Deputy Speaker Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar will spearhead the celebration.

Councilor Lilia Nuño, chairperson of the Gender and Development (GAD), will give the opening remarks while Dr. Mila Fernandez, Local Council of Women chairperson, will introduce the guest speaker.

Filipina author and television and radio host Cory Quirino will be the guest of honor and speaker during the program that will be held at the grandstand.

Quirino is the proprietor of the World of Wellness.

Themed “Kababaihan: Gabay sa Pagtahak sa Tuwid na Daan,” the Marcha de las Mujeres aims to raise funds to help support the needs of women in the correctional facility. It coincides with the observance of World Women’s Day.

In previous years, the Marcha de las Mujeres also succeeded in addressing the needs of the marginalized women in the city.

It is a project of the GAD which also initiates various other activities to help promote the welfare and protection of the women sector in the city.

Not only women groups but male groups and representatives of various agencies and sectors are expected to participate in the Marcha de las Mujeres on Friday. (Bong Garcia)
