Davao City sees busy days after Micecon 2013

EXPECT busy days ahead for Davao City after the three-day Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (Mice) Conference being held at the SMX Convention Center.

The Micecon will be concluded today, March 9.

"Our main objective in hosting Micecon is to make Davao City at the top of the list of companies and event planners when they choose venues for their meetings and conferences from here on," Davao City Tourism and Investment Officer Jason Magnaye said Friday.

Magnaye said there are close to 600 domestic and foreign sellers and buyers attending the conference.

He said the participants, consisting of travel and tour operators, destination management companies and event planners, will be able to see for themselves how ideal Davao City is for their corporate and other events.

He said Davao City is ready for the domestic and international Mice market. “We have the quality and the quantity needed for the successful hosting of big events in terms of accommodations, restaurants and attractions.”

The city has already benefited from hosting the Mice Conference because it is now at the MICE map, he said. However, he added, more benefits are expected to be seen and felt a few months after the Conference as the city expects to be hosting many events, conference and exhibitions after this.

He said the city has started to stir the world market for Mice. In February, the city hosted domestic and foreign partners who attended the Philippine Development Forum.

The MiceCon participants had their first taste of the Davao Adventure when they joined the Davao Adventure Challenge pre-conference activity at the Davao Crocodile Park Complex. (PR)
