3 motorcycle riders killed in road mishap

THREE motorcycle riders were killed after they accidentally rammed into the Mitsubishi Fuso truck parked at the provincial road in Barangay Guinpana-an, Moises Padilla town, Negros Occidental on Thursday evening.

Police Senior Inspector Robert Mansueto, chief of Moises Padilla PNP, identified the fatalities as Rexvie Balenario, 20: Judyrex Carreon, 21, and Juliemar Nuevo, 23 -- all residents of Barangay Montilla, Moises Padilla.

Investigation showed at 6:20 p.m. while Balenario was driving the Honda 155 motorcycle with back riders Carreon and Nuevo, they accidentally ran into the truck loaded with sugarcane which was parked at the left portion of the road.

Mansueto said Balenario and his two companions were travelling from Barangay Montilla to watch a basketball game at the municipal auditorium during the accident.

He said the truck was driven by John Eden Tomeo of Pandan, Pontevedra who voluntarily surrendered to Moises Padilla police station.

Mansueto added the victims sustained multiple injuries in different parts of their bodies and were rushed to a hospital, but they were declared dead on arrival.

The investigation also revealed that Tomeo failed to put early warning device (EWD) in the area and that there were no signs that the victims applied brakes during the incident, Mansueto said. (Merlinda A. Pedrosa)
