P14.5-M worth of marijuana destroyed in Benguet

ANTI-narcotics authorities have destroyed fully grown marijuana plants and seedlings with an estimated value of P14.5 million in a recent two-day eradication operation in Benguet, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said Tuesday.

PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo Cacdac Jr. said the teams, composed of operatives from PDEA – Cordillera Administrative Region and Bakun Municipal Police Station, Benguet Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) and Benguet Provincial Police Office (PPO) PHQ, conducted a marijuana eradication in Sitios Nakneng, Balisaosao and Tamurong in Barangay Kayapa, Bakun, Benguet.

The operatives confiscated and destroyed a total of 63,000 fully grown marijuana plants, 10,000 dried marijuana stalks and 17,300 marijuana seedlings.

However, they were not able to arrest any cultivator during the operation.

The destroyed and burned on-site marijuana plants were uprooted from a plantation site with an estimated total land area of 10,949 square meters, Cacdac said. (SDR/Sunnex)
