Overseas absentee voting in Jeddah postponed anew

THE overseas absentee voting (OAV) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was postponed for the second time due to customs and delivery problems, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. said Wednesday.

"Hindi nakarating yung ballot boxes. [Because of] customs and delivery problems. May movement kasi from one area to another," Brillantes told reporters in an ambush interview.

Voting in Jeddah was scheduled to begin last April 13 but was moved to April 16 because of the requirement set by the Customs in Saudi Arabia.

With the new delay, Brillantes said the election in Jeddah would start as soon as the ballot boxes arrive.

Comelec, he added, is considering adjusting the voting time of registered overseas voters.

"We have to recover it by adding another hour or another two hours," Brillantes said. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
