Have yourself a healthy summer

SUMMER is the season when people spend their time going out for relaxation and recreation. It is when people go swimming, picnic, hiking, and do their preferred adventures despite the heat of the sun.

Aside from trips and adventures, diseases are also in during summer.

Mainstream not in the sense that we like them but for the reason they are inevitable. Going out during summer has now become a risk because of the extreme heat.

Common cases during summer like sunburn, dehydration, food-borne disease, and heat stroke are not to be ignored. These cases commonly occur due to the cruelty of the sun during this season.

People who go to beach and resorts usually enjoy not only swimming and sinking themselves into the water but also just being laid under the sun. Some take the advantage of sun-bathing to get tan or a bit of color because they think the natural way is cheap and the safest. What they seem to forget sometimes is that it is the common way to acquire swelling of the skin, or simply sunburn.

Sunburn causes not only itching but also pain in the skin. The overexposure to the ultraviolet rays of the sun causes it. It may be mild or severe depending on the amount of exposure and skin type. Surely, sunburn is not a simple case as a red skin seems.

Dehydration and food-borne diseases are also common cases during summer for it is when the heat becomes abusive of what we take in. It is the season we actually get overwhelmed by fun and food.

Being exposed to activities makes us forget our normal intake of water which is supposedly something we should always keep an eye on. The loss of body fluids when overexposed to the sun, unsafe drinking water or water alternatives and infrequent intake of fluid causes dehydration which makes us feel drained.

Moreover, the sun does not only attack an individual's body in summer time. Food also becomes breeding ground for illnesses like diarrhea, nausea, headache and dizziness. Food-borne illnesses occur from unhealthy, contaminated and spoiled food which we do not often notice. Food is one we enjoy during this season, but we should not be engulfed by it.

Heatstroke is another common but life-threatening case during summer season. It is experienced when the body is exposed to too much heat and not being able to eliminate it. Severe sunburn, lack of fluid in the body and too much performance of physical activities also make it occur.

Not only should we be aware of these common illnesses during summer. We should keep in mind that there is a need to protect ourselves from them. A healthy body, healthy food and regular water intake are things that will strengthen our resistance and prevent us from being ill. Sure our goal during summer vacation is to satisfy ourselves with our pleasures. No one wants to spend it caved-in at home or in the hospital. We better not allow diseases kill our summer.
