Pet vaccination drive continues

THE Zamboanga City Government, through the Office of the City Veterinarian, has vaccinated 1,207 pets during the observance of the Rabies Awareness Month in March.

City Veterinarian Dr. Mario Arriola said the massive vaccination aims to reduce, if not eradicate, rabies infection in the city.

Arriola, who serves as the executive officer of the Zamboanga City Rabies Control and Eradication Coordinating Council, said the campaign will continue this month until June.

The campaign is done in cooperation with non-government organizations (NGOs) like the Canine Club Inc.

Aside from pet vaccination, Arriola said they also spayed and neutered animals to drum up public consciousness on the need to vaccinate pets to prevent and control rabies infections and various forms of animal diseases.

The City Veterinarian's Office also conducts lectures on responsible pet ownership and demonstration on first aid management on animal bites and proper handling and submission of head samples. (Bong Garcia)
