DUMAGUETE CITY -- Arnis practically saved the day for the Cordillera Administrative Region to barge into the medal tally in the ongoing 2013 Palarong Pambansa at the Holy Cross High School here.
Inspired by the golden performance of Elemer Manlapas in the anyo individual single weapon in the elementary boys category, the Cordillera added two more silver and two bronze medals for the region after two days of disappointment.
"Pinagbutihan ko lang po yung ginawa ko at tsaka hindi rin po ako kinabahan," said the 12-year-old Manlapas of Qurinio Elementary School in Baguio City.
It was the duo of Mara Domingo and Florence Joy Coteng who came up the region's first silver in the elementary girls’ anyo team event double identical weapon as Cordillera came home with another medal.
Not to be outdone, Joe Marson Rey Abogadi finished second to bring home another second place finish for the region in the secondary boys anyo individual event single weapon category.
The day was then capped by a bronze medal finish of Saira Jane Salingbay for the distaff side of the anyo individual event single weapon category.
"Actually maganda ang pinapakita ng mga bata, hopefully tumaas yung ranking natin ngayon kasi at least this year, sa second day ng competition yung mga bata may laban pa," said arnis coach Orden Cayaso.
Cordillera also made a surprise in the swimming competition by winning the region's second bronze medal of the courtesy of Reinaldo Bautista III, Jenkins Lorenzo Labao, Dominador Payaket and Atreo Sae Cabalo in the 200 meter medley secondary boys played at the Sen. Lorenzo G. Teves Aqua Center.
In other Results, the chess elementary boys team stormed past Mimaropa but suffered a setback against Central Luzon in the second round before finishing the third round with another win against Caraga region.
The distaff side also saw winning over Cental Luzon in round one, a draw in the second round against host Central Visayas and a round three loss with Cagayan Valley region.
In football, Cordillera squeaks past Cagayan Valley region 2-0 while the high school squad blasted Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (Armm), 6-2 after their first day loss against Central Visayas, 3-0.
The elementary softball squad also notched a 13-5 victory over Eastern Visayas while the volleyball team scored their second victory in as many games by edging Eastern Visayas, 25-20, 15-25, 25-13.
Cordillera's secondary basketball girls also had a huge 66-58 victory over Region 11 for their second win in the tournament after blasting Caraga region earlier while softball also scored 19-1 over Armm.
