Delicious new turns

CANVAS Bar has announced its new menu, with new turns that will please the tongue. The descriptions alone can make a potential diner’s mouth water.

Soups include Chef’s Soup of the Day; curried pumpkin soup; and tomato and basil cream

soup with shredded garlic, chicken and garlic bread croutons.

The salad choices include six flavors. The first sounds interesting: carpaccio of mango using snapper, salad greens and young sprouts with banyuls dressing (banyuls is a wine vinegar made from grapes grown in the French region of Banyuls-sur-Mer).

Familiar Caesar and Italian salads are on the new menu. There’s one salad with a Pinoy twist, the arugula and singkamas with Parmesan cheese, glazed pili nuts and balsamic vinegar; green salad with cranberries (a fruit said to be good for the kidneys), roasted cashew nuts, kesong puti (goat cheese) and macadamia dressing; and lastly, poached coconut and kaffir lime chicken salad with mixed lettuce, fettuccine sticks, roasted peanuts and crispy shallots.

There are new appetizers to share, like the chicken chicharon, chorizo, chicken liver, gizzards, shrimps and cashew nuts in one platter. Other choices carry baby squid as the main star; prawns; potato wedges; and tofu. Each comes with its own delicious dressing.

Can tapas be far behind? There are six choices, including the rice paper roll with barbecued chicken, shrimps and vermicelli. The dips and salsas bring out the good flavor of the tapas.

Pasta and risotto are featured in the new menu, and there are vegetarian pastas available too. One innovation is the malunggay pesto, which is served with the spinach penne pasta. From spaghetti marinara to fettuccine with spinach and ham, from penne with mango and coco sauce to spaghetti with meatballs, and from penne with prawns to laing and kesong puti lasagna with foccaccia, the diner will surely find something to suit his or her taste.

If the call of the day is for pub grub, then there’s the traditional Aussie pub grub with plates like grilled ham, barbecued chicken, shaved corned beef among others.

Canvas takes care of its diners. The restaurant does not use MSG. Find the place at Stall 204/F, second level, The Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu. (PR)
