Victorias-Ajuy-Banate economic triangle pushed

AN ECONOMIC triangle composed of Victorias City in Negros Occidental, and the towns of Ajuy and Banate in Iloilo is being proposed by two Negrense lawmakers.

To push the initiative, which includes a proposed port development project, Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez and Abang Lingkod partylist Representative Stephen Paduano hosted Thursday a meeting with officials from the three local government units in Victorias.

The meeting was attended by Banate Mayor Carlos Cabangal Jr., Ajuy Mayor Juan Alvarez, Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Pulupandan port manager Enrique Fuentebaja, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)- Western Visayas Assistant Director Lea Delfinado, Negros Occidental first District Engineer Jaime Javellana, and Jorge Unson of Victorias Milling Company (VMC).

The DPWH and the Victorias City Engineering Office presented proposals for the development of the road network in Victorias City to support the planned roll-on, roll-off port.

The PPA also presented the proposed development of the Miranda Port in Barangay 6A as an alternative to the existing port in Daan Banwa.

VMC, as a vital stakeholder in the port development project, provided volume of shipment data and other pertinent information.

Benitez and Paduano urged the local government units and the agencies involved to coordinate closely.

A more comprehensive feasibility study can be finalized to support the proposal for final approval and funding in the national level, they added.

A series of meetings are being planned to ensure that the convergence will result in greater economic and growth impact for the people and communities in Negros and Iloilo.
