Frisbee mixed division today

THE 3rd Daba Daba Frisbee National Competition began yesterday with the all women and open categories. The games were played at the Tionko Field, with three games being played at a time on three of the field's pitches.

The elimination games were a race to 11 points, with a time limit of 40 minutes.

In the first round of the all women's games, Tatak Northmin beat the Lady Monkeys by three points, winning 8-5. In the other all women's game, Joie's Angels routed Davao Disc Squad, winning by a four-point margin at 9-5.

In the open division, the South Side Guerrillas scored 11 as the Ultimate Mad Monkeys were held at seven. Malaybalay United thrashed Davao Disc Squad by attaining a seven point gap, winning 11-4. Mulatto Davao smashed Ateneo Ultimate, making 11 points while holding Ateneo to two points. South Side Guerrillas edged out a two point win over Bekiminaj, wining 8-6. The rest of the games for two divisions were still ongoing as of yesterday’s presstime.

Mixed division games will begin today as 32 teams will square off over a two day period to determine the champion of the tournament.

Vergil Nelson Cañedo of Mulatto Davao explained that the semi-final will be limited to 50 minutes per game at a race to 13, with the games for third place similarly at a cap of 13 points but extended to a time limit of one hour. Finals for all pools in the finals will have no time limit, with the championship for pool A notably a race to 17 as pools B, C and D are a race to 15 points.

The tournament is being played in a round robin format, with the rankings determined by wins earned and ties decided by point differential.

The event was sponsored by presenters Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation and JYJ Truckshop Shell Super Station. Major sponsors were San Miguel Corporation, Nesfruta Juice, Tanduay Distillers Incorporated and De. Minor sponsors for the event were RDL Pharmaceutical Laboratory Inc., Crystal Clear - Tulip Branch, Holiday Gym and Spa, Julie's Bakeshop Toril Branch, Porky's Lechon, Wild Water Adventure and Kapalong Shell Station. Benefactors were Oyet Award Craft, Yaki Herbal Laboratory, Davao Bayan Construction and Hardware Supply, Inc., Fortuneroad Surplus Parts, and Dunkin Donuts.

Winners of the competition will receive trophies and medals.
