50 kids benefit from feeding program

AT LEAST 58 undernourished children, ages three to five, in Barangay Catalunan Grande in Davao City benefited from the milk feeding program of the National Government.

The program was a joint project of the TUCP Partylist, City Government of Davao, and National Dairy Authority (NDA).

Jazzy Perez, TUCP coordinator, said the National Government had allotted P10 million for the project.

She said the project will run for 120 days or six months, Mondays to Fridays, 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. or 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., depending on the availability of the children and their parents as this will be conducted in a designated feeding area to fully monitor the children's improvement.

"After 120 days, i-weigh na pud sila para ma-compare kung naa ba improvement," she said.

Marilyn Mabale, NDA Mindanao regional manager, said milk should not be a replacement for meals, but it is only supplemental.

She said the milk that the children are about to consume has a subsidized cost of P13 and its market value is P16.

Perez said the TUCP is eyeing to feed some 5,208 undernourished children in Davao City.
