Comelec may proclaim 5 winning senators Thursday

MANILA -- At least five winning senatorial candidates will likely be proclaimed Thursday night, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. said.

But the Comelec en banc, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers, is yet to discuss the motion of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), which seeks to stop the partial proclamation of senators citing the slow transmission of election results.

The en banc will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday.

In case UNA's motion is granted, the partial proclamation of winning candidates will again be deferred.

According to the official results canvassed by the NBOC, Team PNoy bet Grace Poe-Llamanzares is still leading the Senate race with 4,011,600 votes. Her fellow administration bet Loren Legarda follows her with 3,826,981.

Only 42 certificates of canvass out of 304 have been tallied by the NBOC as of posting time.

Also in the top six are Team PNoy's Francis Escudero with 3,476,228 votes, Alan Peter Cayetano with 3,423,951, Sonny Angara with 3,244,883, and UNA's Nancy Binay with 3,181,537.

Brillantes also said that he will suspend the Comelec transparency server, which allows its citizen's arm to release election results based on those transmitted by the precincts.

He said this is in respect to the NBOC, which will proclaims winning senators based on the official and canvassed results. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
