Tublay hosts 1st trek

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Tublay town hosts its first-ever Mt. Pokkong trek, giving nature lovers a new challenge.

Dubbed as “Am-am ni Itubday: Visiting the Hidden Treasures of Tublay,” the activity aims to promote the town’s potential for eco-tourism adventure and spelunking on may 25 and 26.

The fee covers transportation from the Provincial Capitol to Ambongdolan, insurance, tour guide and entrance fees, event shirt, certificate and dinner on the first day and lunch on the second day.

Tublay is becoming famous for its caving activities at Paterno, Bengaongao and Ovek Caves and rock climbing at Teytey River.

During Benguet’s Foundation Day in 2011, the province adopted the theme “Exploring Benguet’s Best” to showcase the natural and man-made tourism destinations unique in the province.

Sports and eco-tourism events in the province are on a boom because of the weather in the highlands and the terrain, which is ideal for adventure sports

“We are actually hitting two birds with one stone,” said Provincial tourism officer Claire Prudencio.

Atok town is promoting its majestic vegetable terraces, which can be viewed by motorists and commuters traversing the Halsema Highway, including the rice terraces, which are found in the remote villages.

For adventurers and mountaineers, Bakun is famous for its “Bakun Trio,” referring to Mounts Kabunian, Tenglawan and Lobo, while Bokod recently launched its eco-adventure tourism project with a hike to Mount Purgatory. (Ma. Elena Catajan)
