Tuba seeks to improve facilities for disaster reduction program

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- The local government unit of Tuba is pushing for the purchase of communication facilities it needs for its disaster awareness and preparedness program.

Authored by Councilor Adora Paus, Resolution 53, Series of 2013 is requesting the Hydroelectric Development Corporation (Hedcor) to endorse the project proposal for the purchase of communication equipment for the use of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) to be funded under the Energy Regulation 1-94 granting financial benefits to host communities.

Hedcor constructed a hydropower facility to generate renewable energy in Irisan, Tuba, Benguet.

Power generating companies as per Department of Energy guidelines are mandated to set aside one centavo for every kilowatt-hour of electricity sales as subsidy to barangay, municipality/city, province for electrification, programs and projects on livelihood including reforestation, watershed, health and environment.

Funding for the proposed communications facility amounts to P96,000.

Referred to the committee on peace and order and public safety, the measure was supported in second and final reading by the Provincial Board. (Susan Aro)
