We’re still number 1 in mobile: Smart

SMART Communications, Inc. (Smart) continues to be the number one mobile service provider in the Philippines, in terms of both subscriber base and revenues, the company said in a press statement.

As of the end of 2014, Smart led the market in subscriber base, with over 56.4 million subscribers in its prepaid, postpaid, and broadband services. Smart is also number one in terms of revenues, posting P92.0 billion, about 18 percent higher than the competition.

Together with Sun Cellular, the two wireless units of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) further dominate the industry in terms of both subscriber base and revenues.

Smart and Sun combined has the largest subscriber base with 72.8 million subscribers.

The two wireless units also posted combined revenues of P114.5 billion as of the end of 2014, about 47 percent higher than the competition, clearly giving the PLDT wireless group the strong and undisputed number one position in the mobile industry.

In a press conference following the company’s annual stockholders’ meeting on Tuesday, Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu said they are now the top mobile brand in the country, based on revenue market share in 2014.

“From being a challenger brand, Globe has successfully waged a revolution in all fronts, from digital, technological and business, all the way to our corporate culture, as well as making our financial growth sustainable in the long run,” he said. (PR)
