THE Nacionalista Party (NP) might support Davao City Rodrigo Duterte if he runs for president in 2016, Senator Cynthia Villar said Tuesday.
Villar, wife of NP head former senator Manuel Villar, said the party might endorse the city mayor since he would be a "good" candidate.
"Maybe, (the NP will support him because) he knows the country's problems. He's good. He has done a lot for Davao City. He will be a good candidate," Villar told reporters asking if NP will support Duterte in the 2016 elections.
"He is also serving in the local government for so long. He really knows the problems when it comes to the justice system of the Philippines, (he is) very familiar," she added.
Villar said the NP had a talk with Duterte weeks ago but the mayor has yet to announce his political plans for 2016.
