City commemorates Independence Day at Rizal Park

THE City Government of Davao together with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) and other various organizations will commemorate today the 115th Philippine Independence at the Rizal Park today, Wednesday.

Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will lead the commemoration rites starting at 7 a.m.

The mayor will give the welcome address with Commodore Antonio Habulan Jr., commander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao, as the guest of honor.

Other officials from the AFP and Philippine National Police will also be on hand for the ceremony.

Other groups actively participating in the commemoration are the Department of Education 11, the Order of Knights of Rizal, the Veterans Federation of the Philippines 11, VFP Sons and Daughters Association, Knight of Columbus and the Davao Historical Foundation Inc.

Over at SM City Annex, the mall will hoist a Philippine flag at exactly 9 a.m. to commemorate the event.

The mall had earlier lined up a series of events and activities in celebration of the 115th Philippine Independence, starting with the award-winning exhibition which pays tribute to World War II heroes last May 31.

The exhibit entitled "War of our Fathers" was put up by the Veterans Bank in cooperation with SM City Davao. It aims to relive the courageous acts of the Filipino veterans and show the new generation what it was like to live in the time of the second World War.
