Karlo Nograles: Fathering two 'families' in style

FATHER'S Day is made even better with the British retail giant Marks & Spencer recently unveiling an even bigger store in SM Lanang Premier—the second in Davao and the latest and first of its concept store design in the Philippines.

Stocked with the latest men’s “essential fashion pieces” from M&S Man, Blue Harbour, North Coast, Autograph, dads will have a field day building the standout looks of a Marks & Spencer man— confident, sleek, smart, classic and laid back.

Marks & Spencer finds one Dabawenyo who exemplify these qualities in Karlo Nograles. Here, Marks & Spencer styles up this young man for the different roles he is successfully undertaking while he relates about his paternal duties to his two families— the small family: a husband to Marga and a doting father to three beautiful children—5 year-old son Mateo, 2 year-old son Massimo and 1-year-old daughter Nikka; the bigger family: District 1 of Davao City.

Overseeing the welfare of two “families” is certainly a tough job but he manages to do it. He balances his time between the plenary and district halls for the family who elected him into the position, and family room of his home with his wife and kids. “Having both my “families”—as husband to Marga and father of three children, and as representative of the 1st District of Davao City— is a blessing I will forever be grateful for. It is what makes me complete,” said the congressman.

As a husband and father to my family, he makes sure he gets to spend quality time with them. He believes that in order to be a good public servant, he must first put order in his home. “I go out of my way to make my family understand my work. I share with them the reality and needs of many of our constituents, and that we have been blessed with the opportunity to make a difference in their lives. Given my family’s support, being “father” to the 1st District of Davao city becomes even more rewarding,” Karlo shared.

The Congressman’s family and his district are two very different families, but he says that they are similar in a lot of respects. His duties to both “families” are to look after their welfare and ensure that their needs are met and said,” Being padre de pamilya helps me determine how best I can be of service to my constituents. As a father, I realize the basic needs of my family would be food, shelter, education and healthcare.

Necessarily, it follows that these must also be the needs of many families of our District— scholarships for poor but deserving students in college and technical-vocational courses, medical missions in every barangay, medical and hospital assistance to indigent patients, livelihood programs for women and out-of-school youth, infrastructure and community development, relief assistance to victims of calamities and families in crisis—, and so I must work hard to ensure that these basic needs are provided, especially for families in desperate circumstances.”

His laid out plans for the future? “For my family, I would like to see my kids grow up to be responsible, God-fearing citizens who will work with faith and passion in service of the community and their own respective families. For the 1st District of Davao City, I want to see all families in the district develop into self-reliant and self-sustaining families whose members are all productive, peaceful and responsible with everyone working together for the welfare and development of the community.”
