Seno bombs out of Penang tennis

BOGO City’s Jan Godfrey “Noynoy” Seno failed to advance to the semifinal round of the third Penang Asian 14-Under Series Tennis Championship after a three-set loss to Hong Kong’s Fabien Callod over the weekend in Malaysia.

Seno, 13, of the University of San Carlos-North Campus, said he had a hard time adjusting to the artificial grass courts.

Used to playing on clay, Seno found himself struggling on grass. He was able to manage it in the first set, winning over Callod. However, things took a bad turn in the second set when the match was suspended because it rained. When the match resumed, the court became slippery, all the more giving him a hard time.

Seno was on a high going into this tournament as this came at the heels of his win in the 3rd Malacca ATF Asian 14/U Series Tennis Championship the week before.

“Kaya ra jud unta to nya kaso he was having a hard time adjusting to the artificial grass court. He won the first set and he was leading during the second set. But after the rains, the court was already very slippery and he kept slipping,” said Noy’s father, Noel.

It was the first time that Seno competed on an artificial grass court.

Nonetheless, Noel said they are satisfied with his performance in Malaysia.

“He was the champion in Malacca and placed fifth sa Penang. That is good enough. If given another chance, we will let him join more tournaments abroad,” said Noel.
