Official bares plan for his committees

BOARD Member Patrick Lacson of the Third District bares his plan for the committees given to him.

"I am grateful to have been entrusted to head the committees on tourism, on environment and on food security," he said.

On tourism, he intends to work closely with the tourism team of Bacolod, for it is a fact that the capital city is the gate way of tourists to Negros.

He also needs to brainstorm with the private sector in evaluating all tourism opportunities (sustainability of tourist destinations) meet with business owners and officials of tourism communities (local government units and non-government organizations).

The board member supports the governor’s vision on agri-tourism, as well as all that was already implemented and included in his agenda on tourism (prioritization of Mambukal Resort).

In the first few months of this year, 1.6 million tourists have already visited our country. That gave an instant rise of 10.6 percent from the same period last year. Now, our objective is how to increase number of visitors here in the province. I wish to propose that we strongly market "Beautiful Negros" line with PNOY's (DOT) latest slogan "Pilipinas Kay Ganda”, Lacson said

Lacson also said, “We must re-create our provincial website, and use social network and social media in marketing Negros. We have all the ingredients here. We have natural destinations, parks, (mountain, city, seasides) hotels and resorts, golf courses, white sand beaches, historical landmarks, popular festivals, good food and most especially our unique Negrense hospitality.”

It is important that Negrenses see the importance of tourism as to how it could improve our livelihood and our local economy.

I am confident that this challenge for us would be achievable. My goal is for Negros destinations to be in the "subconscious minds" of tourists in the near future (international, national and local), Lacson said.

On environment, Lacson said that he would focus to legislate on reforestation ,natural resources protection and on solid waste management and he also supports the governor's vision for the province to be environmentally sustainable in agriculture (organic /natural).

One of the measures I have in mind to achieve this is for the Provincial Government to subsidize organic fertilizers to our farmers. For we have the capability to mass produce them, Lacson added.

On food security, Lacson said that he will be working hand in with the committee on agriculture/OPA and with the governor to fully support ongoing programs, as well as present new ideas.
