13 liquor ban violators nabbed

POLICE arrested 13 violators of Davao City's liquor ban at a business establishment along Dumanlas Road, Davao Medical School Foundation (DMSF) Drive around 2:30 a.m. Friday.

The manager of the Dream 21 Disco and Cocktail Bar, Ronie Baguio Servano, 48, was also collared for allowing the 12 violators to continue with their drinking spree beyond the 2 a.m. limit.

Nabbed were Nelson Bague, Jay Arjun Aleria, Ariel Castro, Jay Caraso, Jae Angela Quizon Santos, Karla Bautista Ferrer, Allen Dave Lanoria Gonzales, Kevin Arcaya Rosales, Mac Bern Mahilum, Arvi Chavez Saplad, Stephen Castro Salgado and Joshua Camua Villareal.

Recovered from the arrested were 25 bottles of 500 ml Red Horse Beer and three bottles of 250 ml San Miguel Light.

"Nadaanan ng ating mga habal-habal cops itong mga violators na ito na nag-iinuman pa rin kahit lampas na sa 2 a.m. na liquor ban (The violators were spotted by our habal-habal cops drinking even if they are already past the 2 a.m. liquor ban)," newly-installed chief of the San Pedro police Supt. Joel Consulta said.

Servano was fined P1,000 and will be imprisoned for five days for violation of Section 2 of the City Ordinance 1627, while the 12 others were fined P1,000 each.

"Since my area-of-responsibility (AOR) is within the heart of the city, I will be hard on implementing the different city ordinances which include the liquor ban and the anti-smoking ban," Consulta said.

He added that he will be putting the habal-habal cops to good use in intensifying the implementation of the said ordinance.

Consulta also expressed his support to the proposed amendment of the liquor ban.

"Most of the mauling incidents and riots in our area are perpetrated by those who are under the influence of alcohol. So if the liquor ban would be earlier, it could contribute to the decrease of physical injury cases," he said.

"I also support the stance of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to not allow exemptions so that every business establishment whether small or big will be equal," Consulta added.
