NONITO Donaire Jr. believes that fellow Filipino star Manny Pacquiao has the advantage against slugger Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios in their highly-anticipated clash on Nov. 23 at the Cotai Arena of the Venetian Resort in Macau.
Donaire Jr. pointed out that Pacquiao has both power and speed and could be a handful for his stable mate Rios, who is usually slow on his feet.
“Pacquiao has the power, the edge and speed. Ang kailangan lang stamina kasi hindi hihinto 'yan si Bam Bam. But nakita mo naman 'yung last fight natalo si Bam Bam dun kay (Mike) Alvarado. Mas mabilis pa si Pacquiao (kay Alvarado),” Donaire Jr. said in a
report posted at the ABS-CBN website.
Both Donaire Jr. and Rios are trained by renowned boxing coach Robert Garcia. There were recent reports that Donaire Jr. would help Rios in his training camp for Pacquiao but the 30-year-old 2012 “Fighter of the Year” denied it.
“Kase sabi ni (coach) Robert (Garcia) dun daw ako mag te-training (sa Oxnard) or baka minsan magsasabay or will be training the same time kami,” he said.
Pacquiao is at a point in his career that he can’t afford to lose. The 34-year-old congressman is coming off the most devastating defeats of his career, a sixth round knockout in the hands of his nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez.
Rios, on the other hand, is also fresh from a unanimous decision loss against Mike Alvarado.
