2 women nabbed for carrying drugs from Leyte jail

CAMP KANGLEON, Palo, Leyte -- Police authorities arrested two women who transported illegal drugs allegedly from the Leyte Regional Prison in Abuyog, Leyte.

Police Regional Office-Eastern Visayas Director Elmer Ragadio Soria said surveillance and investigation conducted by his men resulted in the arrest of Corazon Abalos, 44, and Nanette Danoy, 29.

The two were allegedly transporting methamphetamine hydrochloride, also known as shabu, onboard a tricycle along Barangay Cadac-an, some six kilometers away from the Abuyog town proper, around 2:45 p.m. Thursday.

Soria said the suspects just visited their spouses, who are inmates of the correctional facility, when the police team led by Senior Inspector Catalino Landia intercepted them.

“For the past few weeks, the suspects have been visiting their partners at least twice a week and information received that they reportedly get their stuff from inside the prison and peddle it to drug users in Abuyog and nearby towns,” Soria said.

At the police station, routine body search conducted on Dano yielded a small package, wrapped with cellophane and tissue paper, taken off from her underwear and containing three big sachets of suspected “shabu.”

Confiscated from Abalos was a package wrapped with paper and scotch tape containing six small sachets also of shabu.

The confiscated drugs weigh more or less six grams with an estimated market value of P30,000.

“Investigation is underway in cooperation with Bureau of Correction officials,” Soria said.

The two women are currently detained at Abuyog police station while appropriate charges are being prepared against them. The confiscated items were brought to the Regional Crime Laboratory Office for examination. (Leyte Samar Daily Express)
