SWU makes short work of UC

THE reigning men’s champion Southwestern University (SWU) opens its title retention bid on a strong note and defeated the University of Cebu (UC), 25-19, 25-17, 25-16 in the 2015 edition of the Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) volleyball tournament at the University of San Carlos-Main Gym.

One of SWU’s key players, Keith Macasero, missed the game but SWU was not affected at all as Alden Dave Cabaron, Carl Alivio, John Edward Carascal stepped up in his absence.

UC’s Kingfred Sambrana and Irving Romeo Cojedo III tried to rally the team but the Cobras proved to be too much for them.

SWU head coach Dave Arreza is still crossing his fingers that they will defend their title.

Last year's runner-up, the University of San Jose- Recoletos (USJ-R) defeated the Cebu Institute of Technology University (CIT-U), 25-18, 25-19, 28-26.

In the women’s division, the USC Lady Warriors bounced back from their loss last week and defeated UC, 25-13, 25-13, 25-15.

In the girls division, UC defeated USPF, 25-23, 15-25, 25-20 and USJR won against USC, 14-25, 25-22, 25-20.

Meanwhile, tournament manager Ryan Aznar announced that there won’t be any games today because of venue problems.

Today’s scheduled matches will be moved to Wednesday.

"The tournament will resume this Wednesday at the Aznar Coliseum but only among the collegiate teams. The girls division will be rescheduled after the Milo Little Olympics, " said Aznar.
