Cebu celebrates founding anniversary

CEBU CITY -- The Province of Cebu celebrated Tuesday, August 6, its 444th founding anniversary at the Provincial Capitol's Social Hall.

The event, with a theme "Pagtambayayong Alang sa Kauswagan ug Kalamboan," kicked off with a Holy Mass at 10 a.m., followed by a program participated by all the employees of the Provincial Government.

Highlighting the celebration was the "Sayaw sa Kapitolyo," which showcased different dance numbers from seven groups composed of Capitol employees.

Cluster Dance Competition

Winning the dance competition were members of the Legislative department. The group received the P30,000 cash prize.

Members of the Executive department landed as second placers, bagging the amount of P25,000, while the members of the Finance department received P20,000 as third placers.

Receiving an amount of P10,000 each are fourth placer Builders, fifth placer Service planners, sixth placer Agri-Meds, and seventh placer Jailers.

Agri Fair

On Agri Fair, Naga City won the first prize with an average score of 89 percent. The city received a prize amounting to P15,000.

The Municipality of Dalaguete received P12,000 for ranking second, with an average of 84.33 percent.

The municipality of Balamban received P8,000 for being the third placer with an average score of 83.33 percent.

Talisay City, meanwhile, won the earliest decorated booth with an amount of P5,000.

Sportsfest

For lawn tennis (men's doubles), the Builders won the first place, followed by Agrimeds (2nd), and Executives (3rd).

For table tennis (women's doubles), the Executives automatically won the first place after its opponents failed to attend the competition.

Service planners won first place, while the Executives landed second, and the Legislators landed third -- all in men's doubles.

For mixed doubles, the Executives won first place, while the Service planners won second place.

For badminton (women's doubles), the Financiers beat the teams Executives (first placer) and the Legislators (third placer). For men's and mixed doubles, the Executives won first place, Financiers won second place, while Legislators won third place.

For volleyball (women's division), the Financiers won first place, while the Service planners won second place and the Executives won third place. For men's division, the executives won first place, followed by Financiers (second place), and Service planners (third place).

For basketball (men), the Executives won as first place, followed by Service planners as second place, and Financiers as third place.

Rica Lañojan, of the Service planners, won as best muse, while team Executives won as best contingent.

This year's over-all champion is the Executives, taking home a green trophy and a cash prize amounting to P5,000, as well as a red trophy (perpetual trophy), which the team will have to defend in next year's competition.

Vice Governor Agnes Magpale along with other board members also entertained the crowd with Psy's "Gentleman."

Joining Magpale were Board Members Julian Daan, Jude Thadeus Durano Sybico, Wilfredo Caminero, Peter John Calderon, and Raul Alcoseba, among others.

The members of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) were also present during the event.

The San Diego Dance Company and Team Danceport also entertained the crown during the event. Cultural dances were performed with Visayan folksongs entitled "Pasayawa ko day," "Salbahis nga Pikoy," "Dandansoy," and "Si Felimon," among others.

Trust

In his anniversary message, Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III called for “trust” from his co-workers and his constituents.

"When we talk of trust, we talk of integrity. If integrity is demonstrated in conduct and action, trust is the reaction it evokes. Importante kaayo para nato nga kita saligan sa atong mga kaigsuonan, labi na gyod ang atong mga constituents sa mga nagkalain-laing distrito, dakbayan, mga munisipyo sa atong lalawigan sa Sugbo," Davide said.

He added: "Observing the highest ethical standards is essential to the overall effectiveness in achieving our mission and promoting public confidence in the integrity of our programs and employees."

"Ang ako lang hangyo kaninyo nga magtinabangay kita ug magtinarong kita sa atong panarbaho dinhi sa Provincial Government, mag-isig respetuay kita ug ato gayung paningkamotan sa tanang higayon ug ato gayod hatagan ug saktong serbisyo ang atong mga kaigsuunan," he said.

Bonuses

Governor Davide also announced the bonuses named Agency Praise Awards and the Collective Negotiation Agreement (CNA).

The praise award will be given to top five ranking offices from the categories: Executive, the Vice Governor's office and the legislative departments, and the hospitals. The receiver will get the amounts of P3,000, P2,500, P2,000, P1,500, and P1,000, for the first to fifth placers, respectively.

This year, the awardees in the Executive department category are the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), Provincial Budget Office (PBO), PAC, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro), and Provincial Governor's Officer (PGO).

The awardees for the office of Vice Governor's office and legislative departments are the office of Vice Governor Agnes Magpale (1st), the office of Provincial Board (PB) member Teddy Ouano (2nd), Provincial Secretary's office (3rd), Office of PB member Peter Calderon (4th), and the office of PB member Alex Binghay (5th).

The awardees in the hospital category are the district hospitals of Balamban, Paras in Barili, Danao City, M. J. Cuenco, and Daanbantayan.

Another incentive that Davide announced was the CNA, which will be given "across the board." Each personnel will receive an incentive of P15,000, Davide said. (Jay Ann Clamohoy/Sunnex)
