DTI penalizes 23 business establishments

TWENTY-THREE local business establishments have been slapped with fines and penalties for violations of various fair trade laws (FTL) for the first six months in this city.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Zamboanga Peninusla Director Rolando Acuña said they have collected P182,000 in fines and penalties from the erring business establishments.

Acuña said that most of the violations were on the laws on standards, price tag, labelling, and on sales promotion.

"The FTL enforcement is part of DTI’s mandate to protect the welfare and interest of consumers," Acuña said.

DTI enforces FTLs involving consumer product quality and safety; deceptive, unfair and unconscionable sales acts and practices; consumer products and service warranties; price tag; mislabelling/fraudulent advertising; service and repair shops; advertising and sales promotion.

He has appealed to owners of business establishments to strictly adhere to the provisions of the fair trade laws. (Sunnex)
