THE Police Regional Office (PRO) in Davao requested on Monday the Armed Forces to present the three soldiers tagged in the rape of the 14-year-old lumad bakwit from Talaingod in Davao del Norte.

Senior Superintendent Aaron Aquino, deputy regional director for operations (DRDO), said it will be a big help on their on-going investigation if the identity of the three accused will be revealed.

"I will coordinate with the Army for them to reveal the three soldiers who allegedly raped the lumad bakwit," Aquino told Sun.Star Davao in a phone interview Monday afternoon.

Captain Alberto Caber, public information officer of the Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom), meanwhile, said that they are willing to comply with the request after they receive a directive and request from the regional office of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

"If directed by PNP, we will present the accused soldiers. This has already been mentioned by 103rd Brigade commander Ricardo Nepomuceno," Caber said.

The EastMinCom will cooperate with PNP's investigation, Caber said.

Aquino said personnel from both Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Davao and Women's and Children's Protection Desk (WCPD) of Talaingod police urged on Monday the family of the victim to pursue the charges against the three accused soldiers.

He reiterated that without the consent of the family of the victim, the PNP's charges would be weak against the accused.

"Sana maconvince namin sila na ipursue yung charges against the accused," Aquino added. (KRP)
