Maximo to join 50-day camp in Korea

AFTER leading Cebu MultiSport to the team title in the Cobra 70.3 Ironman 70.3 mixed relay division, 18-year-old Cebuano junior cyclist Luis Miguel “Igimax” Maximo of Ateneo de Manila University will represent the country in the UCI World Cycling Center Satellite Training Camp on Sept. 2 to Oct. 20 in South Korea.

Maximo, who is a student of Ateneo de Manila University and a product of YKKBikes.com junior program, was selected for the camp along with national track coach Carlo Jazul.

They were endorsed by Bambol Tolentino of PhilCycling, the governing body for cycling.

The 50-day training camp will give participants the opportunity to undergo a high-level training and education camp to develop their knowledge and skills.

The coaching and education program will be delivered by Keith Flory and Dr. Chester Hills of World Cycling Center in UCI Switzerland.

“I am willing to go and learn new and advanced cycling programs. I am thankful to Rep. Bambol Tolentino and Director Jojo Villa for the opportunity.

But I am also a student and I need to seek permission and support from my school especially that I will be absent for 50 days,” said Maximo, a two-time Sportswriters’ Association of Cebu awardee.

During his high school days, Igimax represented the country in the 2012 Asian Junior Cycling Championships in Malaysia and World Youth Day in Spain and was supported by his former school – Paref Springdale School. (PR)
