Sun.Star, Super Balita win 4 Camma prizes

SUN.STAR Cebu’s story on global warming won the Investigative Reporting Prize during the 16th Cebu Archdiocesan Mass Media Awards (Camma) last night.

Its sister-publication, Sun.Star Superbalita Cebu, won three awards in the Cebuano newspaper category.

Veteran broadcaster Bobby Nalzaro, who writes for both Sun.Star Cebu and Super Balita, won the Best in Radio Commentary Prize.

The winner of the investigative reporting prize, the three-part special report “Warm World: Perils and Challenges of Climate Change”, ran in this paper from Nov. 21 to 23 last year.

Managing Editor for Special Pages and Features Cherry Ann T. Lim received the plaque from Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma and Archdiocesan Commission on Social Communications Chairman Msgr. Trinidad Silva Jr. in SM City Cebu last night.

For Super Balita, Ernesto Lariosa received the Column Writing Prize for his article “Tsinelas (Slippers).” The multi-awarded creative writer won the same award in 2011.

The Editorial Cartooning plum went to Ariel O. Itumay, while Super Balita News Editor Roger Vallena accepted the paper’s Best in Editorial Writing Award.

Superbalita repeated its feat in Editorial Writing in the Cebuano Newspaper (Tabloid) category in 2011.

In the English Newspaper Category, the Freeman was adjudged Best in Column Writing (Fr. Roy Cimagala), Best in Feature Writing (Archie Modequillo), and Best in Editorial Writing.

Cebu Daily News was awarded the Best in Editorial Cartooning Prize.

Banat News, a sister-publication of the Freeman, won Best in Feature Writing and Investigative Reporting and a citation for the San Pedro Calungsod Special Reporting in the Cebuano Newspaper Category.

In the other categories, broadcaster and columnist Leo Lastimosa and the ABS-CBN TV Patrol team won the Best TV News Program Prize.

The Best in TV Public Service Announcements and Talk Show plaques went to ABS-CBN, while TV5 Cebu won the Special Reports category.

Broadcast journalists Arnold Bustamante and Ken Galinea of radio dyHP received the Best in News Program plum for anchoring the “Unang Radyo Unang Balita” newscast every morning.

RMN’s DyHP also got Best in Talk Show, Developmental Communication, Educational and Drama Awards. Radio dyRC received the Public Affairs Program plaque.

Students from the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJR) were chosen to win the Best in Short Film, a new category.

In the advertising category, Campaigns and Grey Cebu grabbed all the awards for the billboard, print, radio and TV categories.

This year, Camma also awarded its choices for best websites.

Veteran journalist Jun Tariman won the Best in Personal Website award. The other winners are: International Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Corporate Website category) and Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (Institutional Website category).
