Hidalgo: 2013 National Teachers Month

IT IS a very important news release which I read in a national broadsheet newspaper. Being a certified dedicated educator, I instantly decided to tackle the theme in my column today. Remember my advocacies on citizens, environment, and education. This celebration in honor of teachers, the unsung heroes, in our country will last from September 11 to October 5. This is organized by DepEd national division in ULTRA, Pasig City. I will give a synthesized and itemized celebration of these significant events here.

After reading these, I wish DepEd Davao Region will organize similar events which should be planned according to the needs of our division here in Davao. Highlighting the events in Manila is the Manila International Book Fair to be held in SMX Convention Center. This is open to the public. Davao teachers who are in Manila may visit this. I took part in this fair in the past where REX Book Store, my publisher and printer exhibited my books and I entertained buyers interested in my books. My book, Sustainable Development-Every Filipino's Concern Let's Help Save the Earth was sold briskly. This book was cited by Google and Amazon Books as an international Oustanding Book in the Field of Science in the year 2000. This is read in the internet. The other popular book which I wrote, For the Filipino Teacher -- Tips On How To Teach Effectively was reprinted ten times in the 1980's.

The next event is Basa-Pilipinas Mass Training. This is for teachers for Grade 1 and 2 to teach enhanced reading strategies that are built on the content standards set by DepEd.

The next event is a seminar on developing critical thinking skills for mathematics competition and the launching of the "High School Math Challenge Questions book. Next is the Sharing of Best Practices in the NTM lessons in the University of Makati. Next is the Synthesis Lecture Series on: Si Bonifacio, Guro at Pagtuturo; Utang Namin Sa Guro ang Pagpapakatao. Then there is the Many Faces of the Teacher Exhibit, a tribute to the men and women who have inspired other educators through their stories. Another affair is the Girl Scouts Of The Philippines Troop Leaders Day. Treasure the Spirit of Leadership as exemplified by the scouts. One more demo was on Art Exploration Made By Ntm Series Of Workshops Focusing On Art And Wellness. Another was May Karapatan Sa Kasaysayan consisting of guided tours in Intramuros, Museo Pambata, National Museum for teachers and students. At Miriam College there will be a series of lectures by the Unesco National Commission called the Karunungan Festival. A seminar-workshop on Interactive Learning Strategies will be given for today's digital learners. Lastly, the month will have a conference on the Impact Of The K To 12 System On Students And Teachers to be attended by Teachers Organizations

The next group of activities will be to honor teachers on their noble works.

This starts with a Thank You Teacher Dinner at the 2013 CEAP Convention with entertainment for Catholic school teachers at Waterfront Hotel, Cebu City. There will be the GSIS Museum Concert Series "Konsiyerto Alay sa Mahal Naming Guro". A convention for student teachers from public and private schools will be held at Meralco Multipurpose Hall sponsored by World Council for Curriculum and Instruction, Philippine Chapter. Sining Alamin Para Sa Guro will present experiential fun-filled activities for teachers at the CPP. Another activity is the Creative Facilitators Training For Teachers to help teachers incorporate creative theater arts skill to make the classrooms livelier. The Many Faces Of The Teacher Recognition Event will be dramatized by a teacher based on his/her experience. Thank You Tea Chers Day For Each School will be held. Finally as a culminating event, The Deped World Teachers Day Celebration will be held at PhilSports Arena at Pasig City.

To conclude this treatise about teachers I will portray the teachers as the nation's builders. I call them the architects of a nation's being. Teachers are the molders of our citizens from the young tots they try to train and educate to the professionals they teach to be ideal human beings is a long laborious trek. Good ideal teachers create good doctors, lawyers, engineers, artists, accountants, businessmen, managers, politicians, agriculturists, social workers, nurses, merchants, laborers, office workers, religious priests and nuns. The whole of the world's populace have been under the tutelage of good and ideal teachers. Great is their responsibility pinned on these noble persons. We salute them.
