Lakas hopes Revilla will be acquitted in plunder suit

THE Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) hopes its party chairman, Senator Ramon Revilla Jr., will be acquitted from the plunder case filed against him in connection with the alleged misuse of priority development assistance funds (PDAF).

"We have faith that the wheels of justice will turn and we hope that he will be able to acquit himself," Leyte Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Lakas-CMD president, said.

"It saddens the party that our chairman is being involved. Yung dalawang buwan na parang kalbaryo na dinadaanan ng mga senador, ng partido, mabigat at malungkot, pero masaya na rin tayo na na-submit na yung complaint, kasi tapos na yung trial by publicity, makikita na kung ano yung mga evidence, para ma-depensa naman," Romualdez added.

Lakas-CMD is also the political party of former President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who is currently under hospital detention at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center also for plunder charges.

Romualdez meanwhile refused to comment if the charges filed against Revilla is in preparation for the 2016 presidential elections.

The Lakas-CMD party earlier said it is considering fielding Revilla as its standard bearer in the 2016 presidential elections.

In case Revilla will run as president, he will be up against Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II of the ruling Liberal Party and Vice President Jejomar Binay of the United Nationalist Alliance. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
