BenguetCorp installs tourism-related signages in Itogon

TOURISM-related signage is the latest of the many contributions of Benguet Corporation in continuously enhancing the growing tourism industry in Itogon, Benguet.

BenguetCorp recently installed directional signs leading to some of the tourism sites and other areas in Itogon.

The mining company, through its Social Development and Management Program (SDMP), thought of this after observing the lack of signages in strategic locations to serve as guide in going to tourist destinations in the municipality.

Meanwhile, those who have gone swimming to the Trese swimming pools, one of the come-ons in Poblacion, Itogon are now benefitting from a more spacious parking space for their vehicles. Drilling and blasting activities were conducted earlier by BenguetCorp to crush out boulders to level the area, as assistance to the Itogon Municipal Government, through its Municipal Tourism Council.

The company is also behind the periodic maintenance of the Mt. Bidawan Trail, an eco-tourism site being promoted in Poblacion, as it funds and provides other assistance in this twice-a-year undertaking.

BenguetCorp paved the way for the tourism boom now being experienced in Itogon, through its Balatoc Mines Underground Tour and Crosby Eco-Park, the first tourist attractions promoted in the municipality.

In the past, BenguetCorp conducted as well the basic tourist reception training for frontliners in Poblacion through its Tourism Operations Officer Alma Caballero.

Another related assistance is the rehabilitation and improvement of the Trese tanod outpost, a vital installation in ensuring the security and safety of tourists and excursionists frequenting the swimming pools in the area.

Itogon used to be just known as a mining town but has now also become a favored tourist destination in Benguet. (PR)
