Villamor seeks authority for private law practice

BACOLOD City administrator Rolando Villamor said on Tuesday that he submitted a letter request to Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella to allow him to practice his law profession once more.

He explained to Puentevella the need for him to return to private practice, particularly rendering legal assistance to human rights victims, which is his advocacy.

“It is part of my system since Martial Law and I want to finish my remaining cases,” Villamor stressed. He added that he is very much willing to comply with the required eight hours of duty daily.

He also said that other lawyers handling positions in the Government Center needs to personally ask permission from the mayor if they want to continue with their private practice while holding government office.

Villamor, meanwhile, said there will be no beer kiosks surrounding the public plaza despite the return of the Streetdancing Competition at the original venue.

Villamor said the original plan of Puentevella to transfer the kiosks that serve intoxicating liquors to the reclamation area stays. He said they cannot afford to make the plaza dirty and pungent, because of the intoxicating liquors that will be served if the kiosks will be allowed.

He added that the mayor wants to preserve the plaza for people to unwind or relax in between the revelries of the MassKara celebration.

The city administrator stressed he has no idea if the decision not to allow beer kiosks at the plaza is part of the negotiations with the Diocese of Bacolod which owns part of the public plaza.
