CCTV installation pushed

THE City Council of Bacolod has approved a resolution requesting the Office of the Mayor to implement City Ordinance (CO) No. 595, or the Bacolod City Eye in the Sky Comprehensive Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Ordinance Wednesday.

Authored by Councilor Carlos Jose Lopez, the ordinance provides that the City Council had passed the CO last July 17, 2012, which was approved by former Mayor Evelio Leonardia on July 17, 2012.

The installation of CCTV has been an effective deterrent against the proliferation of street crimes, as well as monitoring of the traffic situation within the city, the resolution said.

The City Council also passed another resolution requesting Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella to implement CO 573, or an Ordinance Establishing the Bacolod Local Standard Time, in conjunction with Republic Act (RA) 10535 or the Philippine Standard Time Act of 2013.

Also authored by Lopez, the resolution said CO 573 was passed by the City Council on December 14, 2011 and was approved by Leonardia on January 6, 2012.

The CO indicates that President Benigno Aquino III has signed RA 10135 into law on May 15.

Both CO 573 and RA 10535 aim to establish a synchronized time among local and national offices, as well as business establishments which will work to the advantage of the transacting public.
