THE Philippine Red Cross (PRC) is setting up a mini-hospital to attend to the health needs of the thousands of families displaced by the standoff and are presently housed at the Joaquin F. Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex in Zamboanga City.
PRC-Zamboanga City Chapter Administrator Victor Liozo Jr. said the mini-hospital would be set up on Monday at the sports complex.
The sports complex houses 11,979 families comprising of 71,265 individuals, which is equivalent to 72 percent of the total number of evacuees -- 23,794 families with 118,819 individuals.
Liozo said the mini-hospital worth P46.2 million was donated to the PRC by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
Liozo said only three of the seven components of the min-hospital will be set up since “there is no more sufficient space” at the sports complex.
He said they are opening latrins at the eastern side of the sports complex since the portalets could no longer accommodate the thousands of evacuees.
He said they have also hired 90 evacuees through the cash-for-work program to assist in the maintenance of cleanliness at the sports complex.
He said 65 of them will be assigned inside the sports complex while the remaining 25 will be assigned to undertake cleanliness works outside the facility.
They will work from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. since the City General Service Office (CGSO) personnel works from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to Liozo.
